Aspiring young athletes can get firsthand instruction from Carl Sandburg College coaches and players this summer at sports camps for cross country, basketball, volleyball, softball and soccer.
Campers will learn the fundamentals of their sport(s), with an emphasis on having fun. Each camp will be led by Chargers coaches, who have decades of experience at the collegiate level, and current Sandburg athletes will assist with individual instruction at some camps. Campers must meet the required age before the camp date.

CROSS COUNTRY
June 3-6
Practice proper warm-up, stretching, pacing, breathing, striding, arm carriage and cool-down. Camp takes place 5-6 p.m. June 3-6 on Sandburg’s Main Campus in Galesburg. Open to ages 5-12 years old. Led by Chargers coach Rodney Blue. Early camp registration cost is $35 and includes a T-shirt. Early registration deadline is noon May 20. Students may continue to register for $35 after the deadline date; however, no T-shirt will be provided. Rain location is John M. Lewis Gymnasium on Sandburg’s Main Campus.
BASKETBALL
June 17-20
Practice fundamentals and focus on teamwork. One-on-one through 5-on-5 concepts will be discussed and taught. Camp takes place 9 a.m.-noon June 17-20 at Sandburg’s John M. Lewis Gymnasium. Open to ages 9-15. Led by Chargers women’s basketball coach Mike Bailey. Early camp registration cost is $50 and includes a T-shirt. Early registration deadline is noon June 3. Students may continue to register for $50 after the deadline date; however, no T-shirt will be provided.
VOLLEYBALL
June 24-27
Practice passing, setting and hitting, with a focus on offensive and defensive strategies. Camp takes place 9-11:30 a.m. June 24-27 at Sandburg’s John M. Lewis Gymnasium. Open to ages 10-17. Students will be placed by age groups. Led by Chargers coach Todd Winkler. Early camp registration cost is $45 and includes a T-shirt. Early registration deadline is noon June 10. Students may continue to register for $45 after the deadline date; however, no T-shirt will be provided.
SOFTBALL
July 22-25
Practice hitting, pitching and fielding while also focusing on offensive and defensive strategies. Camp takes place 10 a.m.-noon July 22-25 at the William “Bill” Hungate Baseball/Softball Complex on Sandburg’s Main Campus in Galesburg. Open to ages 10-17. Students will be divided into age groups. Led by Chargers coach Todd Winkler. Early camp registration cost is $40 and includes a T-shirt. Early registration deadline is noon July 8. Students may continue to register for $40 after the deadline date; however, no T-shirt will be provided. Rain location is John M. Lewis Gymnasium on Sandburg’s Main Campus.
SOCCER
Aug. 3-4
Practice juggling, receiving, passing and playing variable games. Camp also includes a focus on proper warm-ups. Camp takes place Aug. 3-4 at the Knox County YMCA soccer complex. Open to ages 5-17. Times are 9-11 a.m. for students 5-11 years old and noon-2 p.m. for students 12-17 years old. Led by Chargers men’s soccer coach Kevwe Akpore. Early camp registration cost is $35 and includes a T-shirt. Early registration deadline is noon July 22. Students may continue to register for $35 after the deadline date; however, no T-shirt will be provided. Rain location is John M. Lewis Gymnasium on Sandburg’s Main Campus.
